**bandhu** [bandh-u] m. relation, association, parenté | parent, allié, ami, compagnon | phil. lien, connexion, corrélation; identification entre microcosme et macrocosme, mantra efficace; connection symbolique entre un rite et son contexte mythique; cf. nidāna | soc. parent [sapiṇḍa] d'une personne décédée qui n'est pas en ligne paternelle directe (et donc d'un autre gotra); on en distingue 3 sortes (dans l'ordre de succession): ātmabandhu, fils de la sœur de son père ou de sa mère ou de son oncle maternel; pitṛbandhu, fils de la sœur d'un grand-parent paternel ou de l'oncle maternel de son mère; et mātṛbandhu, fils de la sœur d'un grand-parent maternel ou de l'oncle maternel de sa mère — ifc. de telle catégorie.
